«…The Argentine band Akenathon returns with their third full-length studio album, “Crónicas Intrascendentes,” released on May 30, 2025 via the Buenos Aires-based label Viajero Inmóvil Records and PQR-Disques plusqueréel. Known for supporting a broad spectrum of Latin American progressive music since its founding in 1999, the label continues to give space to eclectic and adventurous projects. Composed of seven tracks ranging from around four to over eight minutes, the album sees the band further refining their take on dark Progressive/Symphonic Rock. As described in the band’s official notes, this release explores “obscure and intriguing atmospheres,” enhanced by keyboards that add “Cinematic textures to a sarcastic and biting world.” “Queja de un Bufón” opens the album with moody keyboard tones, gradually building into a solid and dynamic structure. The sound immediately emphasizes a darker direction, with extended instrumental sections forming the backbone of the piece…»

«…There has been quite a change in Argentinian band Akenathon since I reviewed their second album ‘Como Hormigas’, which was released in 2020. Back then they were a guitar/bass/drums trio with all musicians providing vocals, but this time around Aníbal Acuaro (guitar, vocals) and Guillermo Rocca (drums, vocals) have a new bassist in Fernando Chavez Gonzalez and have become a quartet with the addition of Marcela Crusat (keyboards, vocals). While I enjoyed the last album I did feel there were times when it was somewhat unsettling, and I was not always sure what they were trying to achieve. However, there has been a dramatic change now with the introduction of keyboards as an additional musical element in a band that often plays instrumentals…»

«…Argentine progressive rock outfit Akenathon returns with Crónicas Intrascendentes, a third album that refuses spectacle in favor of finely observed detail. The band leans into its signature mix, classic prog-rock foundations threaded with tango inflections and nuanced hard-rock muscle, and pairs it with literate, inward-looking lyrics. The result feels like a quiet defiance of the news cycle, an album that turns small errands and side streets into epic terrain.
A sense of theater opens the record. “Queja De Un Bufón” (A Jester’s Complaint) channels the jester’s double edge, wit and melancholy, through Camel-like guitar phrasing, ELP-style synth lines, and rhythms that lurch just enough to keep the floor moving beneath your feet…»

«…Akenathon’s third album, ‘Crónicas Intrascendentes,’ feels like opening a secret diary written between dreams and nightmares. Hailing from Argentina’s fertile progressive rock scene, the band builds a soundworld that is at once shadowed, luminous, and cinematic…»

«…We are extremely pleased to announce the new album by Akenathon, a friend Argentine band whose music falls within the realm of progressive rock, with influences from tango, hard rock, and other musical styles, and who have released three albums; «Peregrino» in 2009, «Como Hormigas» in 2020 and the current «Crónicas Intrascendentes» from this dizzying 2025. To give you an idea of the quality of this work, I can tell you that one of its songs («La muerte del zapatero») was nominated for the Gardel Awards in the category of best rock song 2025. Comprised of a total of seven tracks ranging from four to eight minutes in length, the album sees the band further refining their vision of dark progressive rock, as described in the band’s official liner notes, this release explores «dark and intriguing atmospheres», now with the help of keyboards that add cinematic textures to its sarcastic and biting world. Hard rock, psychedelia, tango, symphonic elements, nods to classic Argentinian rock, the album delves into elements of experimental music contributed to song-type formats, seeking the best of both worlds. Highly recommended!…»

«…Here’s a little-known band from Argentina. They perform a lot there and already have three albums to their credit. Rather eclectic, the band revolves around a very expressive guitarist and a theme that borrows from several styles. Definitely ‘prog crossover’, the sound is difficult to categorize, and the same goes for comparisons. Despite this, the detour is worth it. The musicians are agile, know each other, and complement each other well. The lyrics are in Spanish, and we appreciate the little Afro-Latin touches…»
